A journey through senses...

Touch, Sept. 4

I noticed that we all thought of sharing touch in a completely different way. Adam drew his experience over the course of a day and explained what he felt. Sarah brought in little pieces of material to explain what she was going through. She shared pins, beads, and rocks so that we could all touch them. I on the other hand, brought in mini collages that expressed both the way I was feeling and what I was touching. I noticed that it was important for us to share stories along with the props we brought it - the props alone did not say enough about the sense of touch.

Another thing I realized was the some of us interpreted that touch was about “being touched” and other interpreted it about things we physically feel. I think it creates a wonderful contrast when there is a diverse interpretation of the sense of touch.

Also, I think at the beginning of the sharing, since we had not seen each other all summer, and sense is a pretty intimate topic, there was a feeling of akwardness over us, until we realized it would all be okay. Speaking about touch is out of the ordinary and can be uncomfortable.
